Yesterday I visited Boots Brighton North Road and was treated to a spot of pampering by Lauren, one of the team. She showed me a selection of lip products and beautifully did my lipstick for me. Luckily for me, it’s currently Clinique Bonus Time in Boots at the moment so I ended up with a few extra travelsize treats which will be perfect for an upcoming night away for my fifth wedding anniversary…
Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m no beauty blogger, no professional photographer, no make-up artist and not exactly an oil painting, so beauty blogging is always something I’ve stayed well away from despite loving make-up, beauty boxes and having an ever expanding collection. But on a recent trip into Brighton town centre, a rare for me, I ended up steering into the Kiko store, as it just looked so enticing.
I planned on just ‘looking’ at the sale items but came out with five gorgeously packaged, beautiful products that I know are going to become staples in my make up bag.
Firstly, after seeing Meg Says use the Water Eyeshadow some time ago, I’ve had my heart set on buying it. But living with chronic illness means I rarely go to town so haven’t had chance to get my paws on it, until now. I got it in the shade 201, a beautiful neutral shade I feel would suit everyone.
Also in the eyeshadow department I picked up the most stunningly sparkly, shimmery, lavender lilac Cream Crush colour in 12. A fine layer of this cream shadow is great for brightening my ever tired eyes on a workday, and I’ll be layering it up for a sparklier look for a friend’s wedding reception next weekend.
Next up, a scary garish looking pink lipgloss, Supergloss in 119. In actual fact it’s just a sheer glittery lovely shade on the lips that lifts a pale, very English, complexion like mine. A great bargain and definitely one to keep in the handbag.
Moving on to mascara, I picked up Maxi Mod Mascara in a jet black shade. It comes with a little plastic brush at the end of the wand which I know isn’t a favourite with everyone, but I find these great for my sparse, short, blonde tipped eyelashes as the wand gets to the roots and grabs the tips making the most of what little I have.
And last, but by no means least, heading back to eye colour, I threw Sparkling Trail stick eyeshadow in my basket. It was in the sale, and quite frankly, it would have been rude to leave it behind. A natural, sheer shimmer, I got colour 12, which I’m yet to try, but have it on my list of to use this week.
As I mentioned, next week I’m heading back tho the Midlands for a very special friend’s wedding reception. Having grown up in Brmingham I’ve always found the city centre a bit boring. But since I left Grand Central has built and filled with beautiful sparkly stores that appeal to the inner magpie in me. And yes, one of them happens to be Kiko. So who knows what I’ll end up heading back to Brighton with next Sunday!
I read in Tanya’s latest magazine article in Glamour magazine that her target audience is under 25. Well, I’m a year or 4 over that but I haven’t let that stop me enjoying some of the lovely products in the range.
I’m a latecomer to all things Tanya but having recently found her on Snapchat and Instagram, the article in Glamour really opened my eyes and made me realise she’s just a normal girl, and she deserves all the success in the world.
I can’t afford all of them so I’ve treated myself to just a few. I’m certainly no make-up expert but I’ve found the staying power of the eyeshadows, blush and highlighter better than many high end products I’ve tried, and they all give a really subtle finish that can be slowly built up.
The Galaxy eye palette is something I wear every day to work. It blends out so smoothly and gives a gentle shimmer to my eyes to brighten up my work wardrobe.
Now this little treat I just couldn’t resist – the Merry Kissmas gift set. No it’s not Christmas yet. Yes, I bought it for myself – but I am so happy I did! The make-up bag is the sparkliest, prettiest bag ever and I’m looking forward to using it to brighten up my dressing table and my suitcase on trips away.
This beautiful shade – Pick & Mix – is so very me, and I think my mom will be stealing it off me when I next visit Birmingham! I haven’t used it yet but I’m looking forward to trying it out, and hoping it has good coverage and staying power.
Yes, again ,I realise it’s not Christmas but a girl always deserves a treat, right! I haven’t used any of these yet, I’m saving them for a trip to the ballet next week (The Nutcracker – trying to get myself into the Christmas spirit).
What I love most about these products is that Tanya herself uses them, a testament to the excellent quality, beautiful shades and long lasting wear of the collection.
Have you used any of the new range yet, what are your favourite products? Did any of you manage to get hold of the Tanya Burr Advent Calendar before it went out of stock in Superdrug?
Every season I look forward to the new Glamour Beauty Box. This Autumn I wasn’t to be disappointed. It was one of my favourite boxes yet.
I don’t wear bright coloured lipstick. Never have, never thought I would, I’m so naturally fair and blonde I feel it washes me out, plus has a tendency to clash with my bold framed glasses. That was until I discovered the cherry red Revlon lipstick in this box. It’s not for every day, but I’m going to keep it in my make up bag for a special occasion.
The Kiko blush is quite frankly wonderful It looks scary when you first apply it but with a little work from a Real Techniques brush I look bright and glowy all day long.
The Garnier Night Cream feels a little greasy on application but I think it will be great at cocooning my face in moisturising loveliness come the colder nights.
Nails Inc base coat and Rimmel Nail polish are a lovely inclusion in the box as my nails are so prone to peeling and splitting after just a couple of days wear. This base coat prevented most of that and I wore the greyish lilac Rimmel polish for almost a week, no nail casualties involved.
Everybody loves the Elastisizer so I needn’t say any more, this one smells particularly fabulous.
I am yet to try out the Eyeko mascara but I have very high hopes.
And finally the Vita gentle tanning lotion scares me a little, probably best for my pale skin to try it out when I know I won’t be leaving the house the next day. I have tried it on the back of my hand and I didn’t go orange so that’s a positive I suppose.
All in all a wonderful box, the perfect present to myself to get me ready for Autumn.
I do believe it’s still in stock at Latest In Beauty so head on over while it’s still on the shelves.
Can anyone recommend any other beauty boxes for me to try?
Here’s a sneak peak inside my make-up bag.
I have a very pale English skin tone with naturally blonde hair so it;s often difficult to find bases and colours to suit me, but here are a few of my favourites:
And here’s one I don’t really like, and I feel should be far better for the money:
So there you have it for now, these are the tools used to make me look semi-human again, and I think they work quite well.
What are your experiences with these products?
As always, I love hearing from you so pop by and say hello!
I’m obsessed with Glossybox, Birchbox and Glamour beauty boxes. I’m also in the process of spending more time on ‘me’ as fibro depleted me of enough energy to pamper myself like I used to. But I’m changing that and making sure I save some energy for me-time, and I’m learning how to transform my fatigued self into something far more presentable to the outside world.
Here are just some of my favourites so far:
